Is BELIEF in yourself the KEY to WINNING on Tour ?

Are the PGA Tour players a bunch of losers?

Matt Every, on becoming a winner, discusses being a looser and believing in yourself, after victory at The Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Two weeks ago, when Patrick Reed won the World Golf Championships Cadillac Championship, at the redesigned Trump National  Doral, attention went to his winners interview and his comments that he is a “Top 5” in the world player. In the same interview he spoke about his preparation and strategy, however these ingredients in his success have become overshadowed by his “super self confidence factor”. Peter Jacobsen did some follow up with some tour players to see if Patrick Reed’s comments of being a Top 5 player were justified: Click Here to see the video.

Matt Every joked that he is definitely not “Top 5” in the world, probably Top 70. He discussed his disbelief at finally winning, yet this is an “in the moment” emotional disbelief as he was coming to terms with the events which had just unfolded. As we will discuss later, he does have a strong belief in his ability to play. The relief and emotion he showed was a result of a few factors.

“Golf is totally different to every other sport – you lose every week, pretty much”, sometimes “you forget what it’s like to win….it’s nice to have that feeling again”

“These Guys are GOOD” is certainly true and winning on tour is no easy matter, forgetting how to win or losing touch with that feeling is common and as Matt says if you don’t win you may wonder if its ever going to happen.

Every’s comments on Confidence: “What’s wrong with thinking good things about yourself?” Some people “get all thorn up on the dumbest stuff” …… “It’s OK to BELIEVE in YOURSELF”
